DICK MORGAN MEMORIAL BIKE RIDE
Baptist Healthplex and Madison Fitness Depot will sponsor and conduct this ride in 2008. The commitment has been made and plans are underway. We are thinking of a Saturday morning ride simultaneously from Clinton to Ridgeland and from Ridgeland to Clinton. They will end at the Welcome Center in Clinton or the Baptist Healthplex, and the Craft Center in Ridgeland or the Fitness Depot. The welcome center and craft center are impressive, if you have not visited them. We are looking to time the event with other major events in the cities, ie, the big free car show in Madison.
At our next meeting we will identify tasks that need assignment such as; safety, Natchez Trace paperwork, sag support, etc. Want to help? Let us hear from you.
NATCHEZ TRACE PARKWAY MULTI PURPOSE TRAIL FINDING:
Sen. Thad Cochran recently shared some good news with me. Funds have been budgeted in 2008 and 2011 for development of the Multi Purpose Trail and the Natchez Trace Parkway informed me of the two areas that have been designated for work. It is very exciting to see the work on the Trail in Ridgeland bridge over Highway 51 and ramps to the bridge on Highway 55.
I have contacted Roger Wicker for support. Please let our Congressmen and Senators hear from you too. Also, a thank you to Thad who has expressed his condolences for our friend Dick Morgan
BIKE TAG
We are very close to having the required number of bike tags sold to make bike tags available to all Mississippians. If you have not purchased a tag ($31.00) please do so and ask a friend to purchase one. I am trying to convince a business here to join me in paying for a tag for some of their customers. We need to make Bike/Walk Mississippi a viable organization by having a full time Executive Director. The Mississippi River Trail (MRT) has a great Executive and as an MRT Board member I have witnessed the importance of a full time staff. Check our MRT at www.mississippirivertrail.org
Thanks for your help.
